The Cadillac Escalade: Perfect for Camping
The 2020 Cadillac Escalade might have a reputation for being the choice of rock stars and social media influencers, but seeing it as only a high-end luxury SUV is far more limiting than it deserves. We’re not saying that the luxury and technology in the Escalade aren’t worth looking at, because it definitely deserves all the praise it gets for offering unparalleled sophistication in a full-size SUV. But when you check out the Escalade at the Cadillac dealer near you, it’s worth looking at much more than the luxury within.
For example, the Escalade is an incredible choice if you’re looking for an SUV to take on a long road trip or for going camping. Yes, we just suggested using the 2020 Cadillac Escalade for going camping, but think about it: it offers incredible interior cargo space for all your gear, plenty of seating for the whole family or a big group of friends, and more than 8,000 lbs of towing capacity when properly equipped. That means you can haul your boat or camper with you anywhere you need to go, and never have to leave the absolute lap of luxury.
Still not convinced? Well, let’s take a look at the towing capacity and other great features that can make the 2020 Cadillac Escalade a camper’s dream come true.
Tremendous Towing Capacity
Depending on exactly what you like to take camping with you, towing could be very important or might be a minor concern. That being said, the 2020 Cadillac Escalade offers some of the best towing power and performance of any vehicle that you’ll find at the Cadillac dealer near you. And even if you don’t need that towing right now, the ability to tow so much opens up a lot of future opportunities for getting a boat, camper, or trailer.
The actual amount of towing the 2020 Escalade can handle really depends on which model you have and the overall configuration you choose. You can get the Escalade with either 2WD or 4WD, which impacts just how much towing your vehicle can handle. There’s also a difference between the maximum towing for the standard Escalade and the larger Escalade ESV.
With 2WD, the Escalade ESV has a maximum towing capacity of up to 8,100 lbs. while the standard Escalade, also with 2WD, has a maximum towing of up to 8,300 lbs. That’s certainly not a huge difference, especially when you consider just how much more interior space you get with the ESV, but it’s still worth noting. Similarly, the standard Escalade with 4WD has a maximum towing of up to 8,100 lbs, while the ESV with 4WD tops out at 7,900 lbs.
Ultimately, however, you can see that the 2020 Escalade offers some excellent towing capacity that should be more than enough for whatever you want to take camping. Whether it’s a boat, a loaded up small camper, or even a trailer with ATVs or other gear, the Escalade is up to the task. The first thing you thought of when someone said “Escalade” before probably wasn’t “towing,” but maybe it should’ve been.
Plenty of Room for Cargo
For a lot of us, interior cargo space is one of the most important things we look at when considering a vehicle for going camping. Whether we’re just looking for an overnight trip or a long week away, we want to be able to take everything we need, plus some extra emergency supplies just in case. As we looked at the models we have here, we quickly realized the 2020 Cadillac Escalade was the best choice.
As a full-size SUV, of course, the Escalade has plenty of interior space to offer, but as we looked at exactly how much cargo room it has, we knew it was the right way to go. Looking at the standard Escalade, you get up to 15.2 cu.ft. of space in the very rear, behind the third row of seating. With the third row down, you get up to 51.6 cu.ft. of storage area behind the second row of seats. And without a bunch of passengers, you can get more than 94 cu.ft. of total cargo capacity in the 2020 Escalade. That’s a lot of backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, coolers, and cast iron cookware.
Now, if you go with the larger 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV, then you get really tremendous space for all your camping supplies. With the ESV, you get nearly 40 cu.ft. of storage space just behind the third row of seats––more than double what you can load into the standard Escalade. Behind the second row of seats, you have more than 76 cu.ft. of cargo space, and without anyone behind the front row, you can get up to nearly 121 cu.ft. of total cargo capacity in the Escalade ESV. That’s a huge amount of room and space enough for pretty much everything we could need for a weekend (or longer) away from it all.
Spacious Interior for Passengers
While a lot of us like the idea of a little solitude or just taking our significant other for a camping trip with just the two of us, we know plenty of people that really love loading up the whole family or a big group of friends and heading into nature. That’s why the tremendous passenger space in the Escalade is so great––no matter what you prefer, it has you covered.
You can get up to 8 people safely into the 2020 Cadillac Escalade, though some trims are designed with seating for seven instead. Make sure you pick a layout that will work for you; unless you have one friend that you’re okay with leaving behind sometimes. Either way, your passengers won’t be complaining with plenty of space in the second and third row of seats.
Even if you have friends with long legs, the standard Escalade offers more than 24 inches of third-row legroom and up to 39 inches of second-row legroom. The larger Escalade ESV boosts those numbers, as you might expect, to more than 34 inches of available third-row legroom and nearly 40 inches of second-row legroom.
The Power to Take you There
Of course, when you’re going camping, you want to make sure you can get to where you need to go, and sometimes that includes some pretty rough terrain. While we’re not about to say you should choose the 2020 Escalade for serious off-roading, it’s a better choice than you might expect for tackling the road less traveled.
The Escalade has a 6.2L V8 engine that offers up to 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque for great overall performance, and it comes paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The available 4WD is perfect for handling dirt roads, rough paths, and other areas you might encounter on your way to a campground or trailhead. Magnetic ride control that automatically adjusts your suspension helps smooth out rough roads, and the available 22-inch wheels and high stance let you take the Escalade just about anywhere (within reason).
All This and More
Of course, we didn’t even talk about the incredible luxury features inside that will keep you comfortable and riding easy to and from your time with nature.
